The system complements the work the children do at school but also allows revision and reinforcement.

1. If students are achieving less than 80% for their current work it’s because they have not fully understood or forgotten lessons from their work from previous years. The MathsPower program works because it enables children to revise this work thoroughly.
2. When children have a sound grasp of the work from previous years then they are able to succeed with their current work.
3. The MathsPOWER programs have a FULL screen teaching component displaying concepts sequentially one at a time, building.

4. The students hear their teacher explain the lesson. As he or she explains the maths rules and worked examples, the text and the graphics appears clearly on the screen. The student does not see the teacher so they are not distracted by ANYthing! The student is completely engaged.
5. Lessons are concise and bite-sized so the students can repeat the lesson as many times as they need to in order to gain full understanding.
6. The students then complete a printed worksheet so they are learning to work out by hand, unlike other programs where most of it is already done.
7. Students do not proceed to the next lesson until they achieve 90%. This high pass mark ensures the lesson has been fully understood. The computer will record the results and show how many attempts the student has made.

8. If students are unable to achieve the pass mark then they have phone access to a qualified maths tutor from Monday to Thursday, between 4pm and 7pm.
9. To ensure success it is essential that students use the program at least 3 times a week and that each session lasts between 20 and 25 mins.
