Path Not Found error on startup
When you attempt to run High School Mathematics and you receive a Path Not
Found error, the problem could be as a result of a problem during an upgrade of
High School Mathematics to enable access to lessons for other Years. For
example, you may have already installed the Year 7&8 product, and are upgrading
to gain access to the Year 9&10 lessons. In certain situations, the upgrade may
be unsuccessful, and the High School Mathematics installation is left in a
corrupt state. Typically this is because the setup.exe program on the CD has
been run directly rather than being invoked by the CD autorun facility. The most
common symptoms of this problem are one or more of the following:
- You get a “Path Not Found” error when trying to start the program.
- There is a folder called “BTTFTemp” in the root of C drive.
- The “Data” folder doesn’t exist in the High School Mathematics
installation folder. If you did not change the default installation folder
when you installed High School Mathematics 5.0, the installation folder will
be “C:\Program Files\Back To The Future\High School Maths 5.0"
If you have observed one or more of the above symptoms, then you will need to
uninstall High School Mathematics and reinstall it. Please note that
uninstalling High School Mathematics will also delete any results that may have
been entered into it. If the “Data” folder doesn't exist, then unfortunately any
results that had formerly been entered into High School Mathematics will already
have been lost. If the “Data” folder DOES exist, then you may have a variation
of this problem which may be able to be resolved without deleting your past
results. Contact Back To The Future support for more information.
If you wish to uninstall and re-install High School Mathematics, then perform
the following steps:
- Ensure the High School Mathematics program is not running. (If the Path
Not Found error window is displayed, click OK to dismiss the window).
- Delete the “C:\BTTFTemp” folder and all of its contents if it exists.
- Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and uninstall High School
Mathematics 5.0.
- Load disk A of the High School Mathematics 5.0 product you have purchased.
If you have purchased more than one product (eg. the Year 7&8 product as well
as the Year 9&10 product), then you can load disk A from either of the
products.
- The installation program should automatically start – if it doesn’t then
see “If the installation doesn’t start when the CD is inserted into the
CD-ROM” above.
- Follow the installation steps.
- If you have purchased another High School Mathematics product for another
Year, then load Disc A of that CD set.
- The installation should automatically start – if it doesn’t then see “If
the installation doesn’t start when the CD is inserted into the CD-ROM” above.
- Follow the installation steps. Note that the installation for subsequent
years is much quicker than the initial installation.
